Review of assistive technologies for disabled people

Abstract


This paper reviews the state of the art assistive technologies. Three topics are covered in the paper, namely user input modalities, user interface and information presentation modalities. The main focus of the paper are assistive technologies for patients with severe mobility disabilities such as tetraplegia or paraplegia. The system architecture and implementation details of a modular human computer interface are also provided. This system can easily be adapted according to the abilities of a particular patient.
